The Rajasthan Vidyapeeth was established in 1937 by Late pt. Janardan Rai Nagar and his associates to impart education to the downtrodden and economically handicapped.

This University was initially started as an Agriculture University in 1962. Two years later, in 1964 this Agricultural University was turned into a multi-faculty university named as University of Udaipur. As a mark of respect in the memory of Late Shri. Mohan Lal Sukhadia, the architect of modern Rajasthan, the University was renamed as Mohanlal Sukhadia University in 1984.
